Richard Hansen
|
Richard Hansen has extensive trial and appellate experience in both state and federal court, including the United States Supreme Court. He has tried nearly 100 jury cases over the past 32 years and he has been counsel of record in over 100 appeals. His experience encompasses a full range of cases from aggravated murder to white collar and environmental crimes, and his clients have included doctors, lawyers, politicians, athletes, and prominent members of the business community. In recent years, he has handled many large and complex cases, including the first state racketeering prosecution, difficult murder and vehicular homicide trials requiring scientific and technical expertise, and bank fraud charges with voluminous documentary evidence. Awards and DistinctionsRichard Hansen "wins cases he has no business winning . . . because he's better prepared than anyone else," according to one of the judges quoted in a one-time poll of 100 state and federal judges in 1991. That poll ranked Mr. Hansen one of the 20 best trial lawyers, civil or criminal, in the State of Washington. Another judge commented that "the quality of his work has always been excellent." The judges of Washington are not alone in their assessment of his qualifications. Other distinctions include: An "av" rating by Martindale-Hubbell (highest possible in both ability and ethics). He has been ranked in the top 1% of criminal defense lawyers in the United States by The Best Lawyers in America, Woodward/White, Inc., in every edition since it was first published in 1990. He and his partner, David Allen, were the first two lawyers from the State of Washington elected to the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers. Membership is limited to the top 1% of appellate lawyers nationally. Both were nominated by Washington Supreme Court Justice Robert Utter. He organized the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and served as its first president for two terms, from 1987-89. This statewide organization of private defense lawyers and public defenders currently has more than 700 members. He has been invited to teach courses as an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Procedure at the University of Washington Law School, and Criminal Law at Seattle University Law School. He was listed as one of Washington's Super Lawyers in the August-September 1999 issue of "Washington Law & Politics." |
